Dunston hall is now owned by the Devere chain and is located just off the A47 on the Ipswich Road, Norwich. The building is over 150 years old and is set in 150 acres of parkland.
There are a couple of bar areas, one is mainly used as a restaurant and the other doubles as a café and bar. There are some stunning views out over the parkland and the coffee and scones are excellent 🙂
The gym is quite well equipped, but sadly the equipment is getting dated and the place itself is a little bit tatty. For a workout, the equipment is more than adequate, but for this magnificent building it is a shame to see it in this condition – with some money spent and some TLC, it could be made to be outstanding. The gym area is a good size and there are plenty of treadmills and rotary equipment ie rowing machines, step machines etc and using the equipment during busy periods shouldn’t be a problem.
The pool area probably was wonderful when it was first renovated, but sadly it is in a poor state now. There were some ceiling tiles missing, mould on the ceilings and the fittings and lighting looked cheap and dated. The pool size and shape is good – the area just needs to be cleaned up and redecorated.
The changing rooms and showers were also in a bad way. In my opinion simply changing out all the shower heads, taps, wash basins and shower doors would go a long way to improve this area. However the tiling could do with either being re-grouted or replaced as well.
Overall Dunston Hall has good leisure facilities, but as mentioned in this article some money could do with being spent to clean it up.
